Tracking the Changing World Around Us

12-17 SEPTEMBER 2021

Aloha from the BLS7 Organizing Committee

First and foremost, we hope that this message finds you and your families safe and well during this global crisis.  This pandemic has injected a vast amount of uncertainty into, well, everything.  Of course, our BLS7 conference is not immune to this disruption.   The Organizing Committee has been working closely with our scientific committee, BLS Board, conference venue, and others to assess whether it is feasible or prudent to hold an in-person conference as planned in October 2020.  With the continued uncertainty around COVID-19 we have decided to postpone BLS7 until September 2021.  The new dates will be Sept. 12-17, 2021.

Obviously, we are disappointed that our plans and excitement for BLS7 in 2020 will be delayed until 2021. The good news is that we are, now, well ahead of the game re: planning and coordination for BLS7! And, this offers us an opportunity to innovate and expand our scientific reach even further. We are committed to hosting an in-person conference but we will be working to provide a meaningful virtual attendance component to enhance global participation and inclusivity. We will have more time to recruit sponsors and make use of local incentives to support meetings, thus reducing the costs further for all attendees.  Finally, we will make sure that abstract submission and acceptance is done early enough to help those who wish to apply for travel grants through their institutions or other funding sources.  We will keep you all informed about other developments in the coming months.

We recognize that many of the bio-logging community are facing uncertain times regarding upcoming field seasons, academic and research appointments, grant funding, and many other changes. Hopefully, this postponement provides some time for our colleagues to focus on the immediate challenges and, then, gather together as a community for celebration in the fall of 2021.

Before we go, we want to extend our gratitude to the individuals working on our committees and working to support this conference.  They have done amazing work to date and remain committed to helping through Sept 2021.  Many mahalos!

As always we are open to any questions or input you might have so please do not hesitate to contact us on the BLS7 email - or visit our webpage at
